• Once you receive your tuber in the mail, place it in a pot of potting mix until your outside soil temp has warmed - usually around late October / early November.

    • When the last frost date has passed, find a nice sunny spot to plant your tuber (dahlias need at least 6-8 hours of full sun per day) in free-draining soil.

    • Dig a hole approximately 10- 15cm deep and place your tuber in with the 'eye' facing up, refill with soil.

    • If you are planting multiple dahlias together allow approximately 30cm between each tuber.

    • New shoots usually take a couple of weeks to break the soil surface. Do not water until you have obvious shoots as too much watering can lead to tuber rot. (Here we usually wait until there are obvious leafy shoots above ground before watering.)
    • Slugs love new dahlia shoots - be prepared to use slug traps or bait at the beginning of the season.

    • 'Pinching' out the center stem of your dahlia plant once it is approx 30cm tall will produce more stems and therefore more dahlia blooms to enjoy.

    • Staking helps support tall dahlia plants.

    • When harvesting your flowers make sure to cut nice long stems - at least past two leaf nodes.
